The project was initiated by Sharoona who had undertaken a number of spiritual pilgrimages to India. A seed was sown and she decided to create a similar Spiritual Centre in Durban North. The central compression ring comprises a circular fabricated box section of which large smoke extraction fans are housed. To complete the aesthetics and to provide weather proofing to the fans, a capping capsule with louvre cladding, prefabricated and mounted over the compression ring. Combining the accuracy of the rolling of the cladding sheets and the structure was the main challenge. Workshop meetings with specilaist suppliers and designers ensured that all componets invloved in the strucure were compatable. The surrounding concrete structures on three sides with the fourth side being on an up built boundary, made cranage of the steel elements particularly challenging.
