Project Overview
The client had the need for a structure that could house the family over weekends at the river. The emphasis needed to be on the public spaces where living took place. This included the outdoor spaces of the building. Architecturally this was communicated through the higher pitched roof of the public areas and the lower mono pitched roofs of the sleeping areas. The outdoor space towards the river took the geometry of the sleeping areas to allow the gable of the living areas to be glazed. The whole building had to be raised and put on columns, in order to create a stable floor, a LSF joist system were designed in such a way that the columns could be placed in such a way that the ground level can still be utilised for parking etc. Walls and trusses were also done with LSF, with the centre trusses designed as parallel cord trusses to comply with the aesthetic look and feel that the architect envisioned.
