70 Years of Steel Leadership – Introducing the SAISC 70th anniversary identity

For 70 years, the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) has stood alongside the steel construction industry in Southern Africa, supporting its growth, championing excellence, and helping shape the standards that continue to define it today.
As SAISC enters this milestone anniversary year, we are proud to introduce our official 70 Year Anniversary lock up logo.

More than a commemorative mark, the identity represents seven decades of technical leadership, industry contribution, trusted relationships, and a shared commitment to the advancement of steel construction across the region.

It is a symbol of legacy.
But equally, it is a symbol of continuity.

Because while much has changed since SAISC was founded in 1956, the institute’s purpose remains remarkably consistent. To strengthen the steel construction industry through knowledge, collaboration, professionalism, and credibility.

Built through generations of industry contribution

No institution reaches 70 years without the support of an industry behind it.

The SAISC story has been built through generations of engineers, fabricators, architects, detailers, merchants, contractors, developers, educators, and industry leaders who have contributed not only to the institute itself, but to the growth of steel construction in Southern Africa.

It is reflected in projects that have shaped skylines, strengthened infrastructure, supported industrial growth, and enabled progress across sectors and borders.

It is reflected in technical advancement, skills development, mentorship, and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.

And it is reflected in the enduring relationships that continue to hold this industry together.
The 70 Year Anniversary identity therefore represents more than the age of an organisation.
It represents the collective legacy of the people and companies who continue to contribute to the steel industry every day.

The Anniversary Identity

The 70 Year Anniversary lockup is built around a simple circular seal form which is a device associated with institutional authority and trust. It’s a deliberate choice for an organisation that has spent seven decades as a credibility mark within the industry.

The oversized “70” commands the centre, set against the SAISC’s deep navy. The full institute name arcs around the outer ring, with “Established 1956” anchored at the base, grounding the milestone in its origin rather than simply announcing it.

A secondary light blue colour gives the identity a contemporary edge for specific applications, signalling that while the anniversary looks back, the institute is focused forward.

Why SAISC still matters

In many ways, the role of SAISC today is more important than ever.

Industries evolve. Markets shift. Technologies advance. Expectations change.

But throughout that evolution, there remains a need for trusted institutions that can bring industry together, uphold standards of professionalism, support technical excellence, and create a sense of continuity within an ever changing environment.

That is the role SAISC continues to play.

For many, SAISC represents a trusted source of steel specific knowledge and guidance.

For others, it represents connection, a professional network built around shared values, credibility, and industry advancement.

For many members, it is also a mark of alignment with quality, ethics, and professionalism within the built environment.

Importantly, SAISC has never existed purely as an administrative body or industry association.

It exists because the steel construction industry benefits from having a dedicated institution focused specifically on steel, its people, its development, its standards, and its long term future.

A legacy of credibility and excellence

Over the years, SAISC has become closely associated with credibility within the steel sector.
That credibility has been built steadily through technical guidance, industry engagement, publications, training, events, advocacy, and platforms that celebrate excellence in steel construction.

It has also been strengthened by the quality of the institute’s membership base, companies and professionals who continue to contribute meaningfully to the industry and uphold the values that SAISC represents.

Membership has always meant more than visibility.

It reflects participation in a broader industry community committed to professionalism, technical excellence, and the continued advancement of steel construction in Southern Africa.

As the industry continues to evolve, that sense of credibility and trusted alignment becomes increasingly valuable.

More than a celebration

While this anniversary is certainly a celebration, it is also a moment of reflection. It is an opportunity to recognise the individuals, companies, leaders, and members who have contributed to SAISC’s journey over the past seven decades.

It is also an opportunity to reaffirm the institute’s commitment to the future.

The next generation of steel construction will require continued collaboration, knowledge sharing, innovation, and leadership.

SAISC intends to remain part of that journey.

The introduction of the 70 Year Anniversary lock up is therefore not simply about honouring the past.

It is about recognising the enduring role SAISC continues to play within the industry today, and the responsibility that comes with carrying that legacy forward.

A thank you to our Members

At the heart of SAISC’s 70 year journey are its members.

Your support, participation, contribution, and belief in the institute have helped sustain and strengthen SAISC across decades of industry change.

This anniversary belongs not only to the institute, but to the broader steel community that has grown alongside it.

Together, we celebrate 70 years of steel leadership, industry excellence, and collective progress.

And together, we continue building what comes next.
