Project Overview

While the structure had to match with the existing roofs around the campus, It had to ensure that it accomodates all Air-Conditioning condenser units on the concrete. Therefore allowing airflow and light into the roof while ensuring minimal rainwater access.

Project Details
Long span trusses and girders with minimum support points available, support points not on the same level as the floor is sloped to let water off in the designated down pipe areas created quite a challenge.
Floor levels not consistent for anchoring of the columns, therefore extension pieces had to be made and we also added additional connection points to the upstand concrete beam. We omitted a crane due to budget constraints to lift the material to the 4th floor, all material were hoisted by hand to save the crane cost.
Benefits of Steel in this Application

The high strength to light weight ratio gave a big advantage on this project. Columns, girders and parrallel cord trusses were used to clear all the mechanical equipment on the roof area while keeping the additional added hight to the minimum.
