Project Overview

To create another multiple story building in order to create another process plant within tight building parameters. Multiple columns from various floors was used to create the support needed to create "mezzanine" floors to create working platforms for the process of feed for animals.

Project Details
Fabrication, particularly the beam work, went smoothly. The real test was erection: the only access for steel and equipment was from the main road, with the furthest set point 32 metres in. We used a 180-tonne crane to reach it. The erection sequence added complexity—we had to build from the furthest bay back toward the road, and after placing each floor, wait for the plant to be installed on that level before continuing upward.
The tie into the existing building was challenging. With the help of a practical engineer this made it easy as the gutter sloping system designed helped with the adjustability of the flow of water. The laydown area was not at the work site. We had to double handle steel in the right sequence to erect per day. By erecting from the road we had no laydown area at the crane so we had to plan our erection sequence well in advance.
Benefits of Steel in this Application

Multiple floors within a very tight site the steel structure helped to create working platforms for the process plant.
