Union Steel began as Union Engineering Works in 1956, serving industry in general engineering and steel fabrication from a small workshop based in Woodstock, Cape Town.

The company diversified and experienced rapid growth in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. This necessitated more space and a move to larger premises in Maitland Cape Town was inevitable in 1964. Growth continued and in 1970 the company settled into its present base in Epping Industria. The group occupies 17000 m2 in one central location.
