By submitting a nomination for the Steel Awards, the Nominator confirms acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
Authority to Submit
The Nominator confirms that they are authorised by the project owner and/or key project stakeholders to submit the project for consideration in the Steel Awards. The Nominator accepts full responsibility for ensuring that all submitted information is accurate, complete, and approved for public and professional review.
Nominator Responsibility
The Nominator is responsible for coordinating, compiling, and submitting all required project information, including supporting documentation, imagery, drawings, and presentations, in collaboration with the project team and the SAISC team where required.
While SAISC may provide guidance and templates, the quality, completeness, and accuracy of the submission remain the sole responsibility of the Nominator.
Single Nominator per Project
Only one (1) Nominator is permitted per project. This Nominator will serve as the primary point of contact for all communication, coordination, marketing, and publication purposes related to the nomination and awards process.
A single Nominator may, however, submit multiple projects, provided each project is entered as a separate nomination and meets all entry requirements.
Quality of Submission
The progression of a project through the judging process including shortlisting and finalist selection is directly influenced by the quality, clarity, and completeness of the information submitted.
Judges rely exclusively on the submitted material to conduct a fair and unbiased assessment.
Incomplete, unclear, poorly prepared, or low-quality submissions may negatively affect a project’s evaluation and progression. SAISC cannot guarantee advancement to finalist stage where insufficient or substandard information is provided.
Adherence to Deadlines
All required information must be submitted by the published deadlines.
Failure to meet submission timelines may result in delays, administrative exclusion, or disqualification from the awards process.
It is the Nominator’s responsibility to ensure all deadlines are strictly adhered to to enable a seamless and equitable judging process.
Phase 2 – Case Study Interview Submissions
Projects progressing to Phase 2 are required to submit a presentation for case study interviews using the official SAISC presentation template provided.
- No alterations to the template are permitted
- No logos, branding, animations, transitions, or visual identifiers may be added
- The template must be used exactly as supplied
This requirement supports the anonymous judging process.
Non-compliant presentations will be returned for correction and must be resubmitted in the correct format before judging can proceed.
Site Visits & On-Site Inspections
As part of the judging process, SAISC judges may select certain shortlisted or finalist projects for site visits and close-up inspections.
Where a site visit is required, the Nominator is responsible for coordinating and arranging the visit in collaboration with the SAISC team. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Confirming site access and permissions
- Ensuring the site is safe and suitable for inspection
- Providing accurate location details and directions
- Ensuring access to relevant areas for inspection of steelwork
- Facilitating the recording of video and photographic footage on site
- Ensuring a knowledgeable host or project representative is present to receive and accompany the judging team
Failure to adequately coordinate or facilitate a site visit may negatively impact the project’s assessment and may affect its progression in the awards process.

Payment Requirement for Judging
No nomination will be reviewed, assessed, or judged unless full payment has been received by the stipulated payment due date.
SAISC reserves the right to exclude any entry from the judging process where payment has not been received in full and on time.
Cancellation Policy
- Written cancellations must be submitted to Elrika Boshoff (elrika@saisc.co.za).
- Cancellations received at least 20 days prior to the applicable deadline will qualify for a 50% refund.

- In the absence of timely written cancellation, the company remains liable for the full cost of the initial reservation, even in the event of non-attendance or withdrawal.
Project Entry Disqualification
The Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify any project entry submitted to the Steel Awards programme where such entry fails to comply with the published rules, eligibility criteria, submission requirements, or participation conditions.
Without limitation, disqualification may arise in the following circumstances:
1. Non-Payment or Late Payment
All entry fees must be received in full by the stipulated payment deadline.
Any entry for which payment is not received in full and on time shall not be eligible for judging and may be disqualified without further notice.
2. Late Submission
Entries received after the official closing date and time shall not be accepted. SAISC shall not be liable for delays in submission arising from technical failures, file transmission issues, system errors, or communication failures on the part of the entrant.
3. Incomplete, Inaccurate, or Misleading Information
The entrant is solely responsible for ensuring that all submitted project information is accurate, complete, and duly authorised for use. Disqualification may result where:
- mandatory documentation, drawings, images, or supporting materials are missing
- project information is incorrect, misleading, or not approved by relevant stakeholders
- the quality, clarity, or completeness of the submission prevents proper technical or professional evaluation.
4. Technical, Compliance, or Eligibility Findings
The judging panel reserves the right to disqualify any entry where, during evaluation:
- the project does not meet eligibility requirements
- material inconsistencies, technical deficiencies, or non-compliance issues are identified
- the submission fails to demonstrate compliance with award criteria
- any circumstance arises that, in the opinion of the judges, compromises fair, objective, or professional assessment
- The judging panel reserves the right to disqualify any entry where, during evaluation:
All judging decisions shall be final and binding. No correspondence shall be entered into regarding judging outcomes or disqualification decisions.
5. No Refund Policy
In the event of disqualification for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to late payment, late submission, incomplete documentation, inaccurate information, or technical review findings, all entry fees paid shall be non-refundable.
Finalist Representation at Awards Event
All finalist projects must ensure appropriate representation at the Steel Awards Gala Event to accept awards, commendations, or acknowledgements.
Failure to ensure representation may result in the award being announced without on-stage acceptance or formal recognition.
Judging & Final Decision
All projects are assessed by an independent judging panel appointed by SAISC.
The judges’ decisions are final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding scores, rankings, or outcomes.
