Kantey & Templer Consulting Engineers was founded in March 1953 when university colleagues; Basil Kantey and Gerry von Geusau established the firm specialising in Civil, Structural and Geotechnical services. The firms’ first office was based in Cape Town and it soon established a good technical reputation for engineering projects in the reclaimed Foreshore area of the Cape Town CBD. The technical expertise continued to grow with the early involvement of Colin Templer and legendary Geologist Tony Brink.In the 1960’s the company continued to grow by various mergers of other consulting engineers into the Kantey & Templer name. This growth allowed the company to extend its geographical footprint to various other towns and cities in South Africa where opportunities were sought.
Kantey & Templer continued to consolidate its sought-after expertise in the disciplines of Civil, Structural and Geotechnical engineering. The diversification of our skill offering has taken us to develop a strong presence in the Petrochemical industry where we service the industry with expertise in Mechanical, Electrical and Environmental services.
We have developed a strong multi-disciplinary capacity to service the engineering needs of our clients in terms of the design of Petrochemical storage and distribution facilities.
The diversity of our skill offering, as well as our client body, has allowed us to extend our project foot-print to many parts of Africa while remaining predominantly in the Southern African region.

We continue to grow our client list with our reputation for undertaking technically challenging projects.

Our contribution to the growth of engineering skills in our profession has been significant over the years as many of our employees have benefited from our bursary scheme and on-going mentorship programs. Kantey & Templer currently have over 280 employees spread over the various offices.
The company is owned by the shareholders who are all permanent employees. The shares are held in the hands of 35 individual shareholders as well as a staff trust comprising of all qualifying previously disadvantaged individuals (PDI’s). The management model can be attributed to our long-term success and a stable senior staff compliment.
Recent corporate restructuring has resulted in achieving 51% black ownership. The company continues to evolve into the future as we respond to the needs of our clients and the society, we live in.
