Project Overview
Background
• Construction of Riversands dam underway adjacent Century blvd, Johannesburg.
• Client requirement: A fit for purpose pedestrian bridge to cross the dam.
• Bridge approx. 35m long.
Bridge Concept
• Various options were discussed but options having a central pier on the dam wall were disregarded.
• A structural steel arched pedestrian bridge was proposed to cross the dam using a single span.
• This provided the most aesthetically pleasing bridge solution and negated construction in the waterway.
